SJMADE with SJEATS @ San Pedro Square Market!

Of all the events I have plugged this year so far, I have to say I am the most excited about the one below. It will usher in a new, major permanent attraction in San Jose. At the San Pedro Square Market sign lighting last week, Sam Liccardo said this was the beginning of Downtown's second renaissance. I think he's right, and the event coming next weekend will show you why.

I actually see this event as a combination of 3 main attractions:

1.) SJMADE - They will be showcasing local vendors (including The Usuals), south bay culture, San Jose art, and live music. This is a great way to support our burgeoning arts, fashion, and crafts community.

2.) SJEATS - The best food trucks in the Bay Area will be gathering along St. John Street right in front of the Market. They'll also be providing some entertainment.

3.) San Pedro Square Market Soft Launch - You will be able to try out the wine bar also featuring plates of fine cheeses and cold cuts, enjoy a mojito or craft beer at the San Pedro Square Bar, have a pizza baked in a hand-made brick oven imported from Naples at Pizza Bocca Lupo, or maybe even get a haircut at Crewners. This will give you a good sample of what's coming with an ambiance you just can't beat.

If you're reading this blog right now, then you have to mark your calendar for this event. Bring the whole family!

SJMADE with SJEATS
San Jose, California
September 17 & 18, 2011
San Pedro Square Market

PRESS RELEASE

San Jose Made (SJMADE) found its roots in San Jose, CA, where brother and sister, Mike and Marie Millares of The Usuals, ran small trunk shows featuring products from local brands. The small trunk shows have, since, grown into larger-scale vendor shows for locals who are building independent brands, creating collections, or designing goods in the San Francisco South Bay Area. SJMADE events house vendor and artist booths alongside live music performances by local acts. In response to the growing demand for local goods, SJMADE partnered with SJEATS hoping to continue this unique homegrown shopping and food experience in San Jose, CA.

Some of the Bay Area’s best food trucks are coming to San Pedro Square Market for SJMADE with SJEATS, a vendor and food truck festival based in San Jose, CA. Cuisines spanning the globe will be represented, from Filipino street food to chrome karaoke ice cream trucks. SJEATS was founded by husband and wife team, Ryan and Christine Sebastian. The couple operates Moveable Feast, a traveling food truck and live music event. Thousands of people have attended Moveable Feast events to sample local fare from gourmet food trucks with a helping of live music.

SJMADE with SJEATS is scheduled to run 11:00a to 7:00p on Saturday and Sunday, September 17th and 18th at San Pedro Square Market in downtown San Jose. Admission is free. The growing schedule of vendors and food trucks is available online at: http://www.sanjosemade.com.

  1. This place confuses me. So it's gonna be a bunch of retail and restaurants (several bars/restaurants already on that block) - not a proper market where you can buy produce and meat, etc? I know about the CSA boxed produce place, but that's not convenient for someone living downtown trying to pick up some ingredients.

  2. It will definitely also have proper market components such as VeggieBox for fresh local produce. Think of it as a permanent farmer's market that will also incorporate micro restaurants, bars, and entertainment.

  3. I gotta say, SJ Eats (or is it Moveable Feast San Jose?) has the worst clustercurse of a web presence. It cannot be that hard to have one website which has the latest information for the next gathering instead me trying to find an FB page update that is linked from an outdated FB event page which cannot be found by Google. Or I'm mislead by an outdated Twitter account or by SJMade which has no links to SJEats. I often don't go because I can't figure out the time or which trucks will be there without spending 20 minutes searching for the info online. Get your curse together, SJ Eats!

  4. They actually changed their name to "Moveable Feast," not sure why they are using the SJEATs name this time around (maybe because it is in conjunction with SJMADE?)

  5. All they need is to have http://mvbl.org/ be *the* place to go to for the most recent information with time, trucks, and a map link, instead of linking to an FB page, or having a web graphic which I can't copy/paste any info from. If they want to link to an FB page, fine, but their own website should be the source of the most recent and relevant info. They only have two cities right now; can't be that hard.

  6. Yeah, I agree. I think that will likely happen in the future. For now I would bookmark this page: http://www.facebook.com/MVBLfeast which lists all of them (also they added Mountain view)

  7. who are the farmers market vendors? veggie box is a csa. is there a butcher or deli?

  8. I truly thought movable feast and sjeats were two different things!

  9. You can see the confirmed vendor list over here: http://www.sanpedrosquaremarket.com/san-pedro-square-market-tenants-0/

  10. BTW, the "confirmed vendor" list is not a complete list. A more complete list can be found here:

  11. Those are other tenants in the area, but not inside of the market.

  12. Yeah, I still don't really get it. No produce stands, no deli or butcher. For folks living downtown, you'd think they would have designed this to be more useful for running errands, stocking up, etc... not just more bars ms restaurants on a block that ha that stuff on all four sides. I think the novelty is gonna wear off real quick.

  13. Completely disagree, it will be much more than just another Safeway (which is down the street anyway). Lot's of unique products, character, ambiance, and food. You have to check it out before you judge!

  14. That's sort of the point. Safeway is nasty. I live downtown and it'd be really nice to have some quality alternatives. We don't even have a Whole Foods (and Zanottos is just plain gross). I'm just saying, yeah I'll go for an ocassipnal glass of wine or meal, but I'm not out hunting "unique" things too often. I'm afraid it will get lumped in with all the other mediocre businesses on that block. Do you live downtown, Joshua?

  15. It was being billed as a market similar to Pikes Place or the Ferry Building..Micro restaurants and bars do not seem like a permanent open air farmers market to me

    ReplyDelete
  16. > Those are other tenants in the area, but not inside of the market.

No, that's the list of the tenants in the market as well as those surrounding the market. They are grouped by headers. Look at the two columns under "San Pedro Square Market"

  17. Micro restaurants, bars, retail, veggies, gift shops... it's a very similar mix to what you would find in other urban markets. Go check it out after it's fully launched, and then judge. If you live Downtown, I have a feeling you'll end up there more often than you think.

  18. Pikes Place and the Ferry Building are actually in real cities with dense populations!

    ReplyDelete
  19. So you're saying San Jose isn't a real city? I think you should find another blog to troll.

    Josh,

You're far too generous with which comments you leave up. It takes two seconds for a coward to anonymously spread vitriol. You shouldn't give them the satisfaction of having their voice heard.

As for the market, I'm both excited and terrified. I think anywhere else in the world it would be a big hit. Unfortunately we live in a strange place where people constantly complain about their city, then take a sadistic pleasure in shooting down attempts to make it better.

Thanks again for all your work to change peoples minds. We have so much potential as a city.

  21. Pikes Place and the Ferry Building are actually in cities smaller than San Jose.

  22. Alas, the Moveable Feast website. Sigh...

Treatbot puts together Moveable Feast (formerly SJ Eats -- but again called SJ Eats for this week only). It's not obvious right now, but we are working with one of the best graphic designers in the game right now to put together a top notch website. As Josh mentioned, I encourage all of you to use: https://www.facebook.com/MVBLfeast?sk=events for all of our upcoming events. We hope to debut our new web presence by the grand opening of Treatbot at San Pedro Square Market in late October!

  23. Thanks for the update and great to hear you're improving the site. Yeah, the important thing for me is to know the where, when, and who/what, and to have that information easily copy/paste-able and share-able. Quality graphic design on top of that would be chocolate syrup on the ice cream, with some karaoke.
