New Craft Beer Tasting Lounge Opening Downtown!

I have a feeling that the craft beer scene is about to explode Downtown. The Original Gravity House and Good Karma are going to have some company very soon.

Sukhjeev Singh is the owner of Bobby's Liquors on El Camino, which features an insane collection of craft brews. He's about to take things to the next level by opening up a tasting lounge called ISO: Beers (In Search Of Beers). With 1,756 sqft, he'll have enough room for 50-60 tap handles, storage for 2,000 bottled beers, comfortable sofas, and of course some tables. This is someone that really knows his beers, so I can't wait to see how this turns out.

ISO: Beers is going to be located at 81 East Santa Clara Street, near 4th Street Pizza and City Hall.

  1. Goof good luck with that. One of the most sketchy blocks in downtown. Homeless people and random freaks rule that block. I go out of my way to avoid it during the day and wouldn't even consider it at night.

    1. If this is near City Hall it can't be too bad. Isn't this near where the Grocery Outlet just openned? Anyways, I hope they do well and as a beer fan it's worth a trip downtown!

    2. It's between 2nd & Third. Grocery Outlet is several blocks away and a whole other world. I run by this block frequently and see open drug use, etc., etc. The police do nothing to maintain order and it's shameful that this goes on so close to City Hall. Ridiculous really.

    3. This is how you change a block. You open stuff. Support the business if you want something to change.

    2. They are going one corridor at a time, so I'm sure they will get there eventually... especially if more retail slots are filled in the area.

  4. Does anyone know when it will open? I can't wait and think it will improve the street. Hope to see more of these in downtown, I know the Blackbird Tavern will be another pub/craft beer place going in at the old cafe across from Johhny Rockets. These are the types of places that can fill in the empty retail spots in downtown and bring a ton of life to the area... I'm excited!

  5. This is pretty close to smoke eaters. So if you couple this one with OG, smoke eaters, the new craft brew thats supposed to come up on paseo - that makes for a good number of good beer options within a 2 block radius. Nice!

  6. Does anyone know what is opening on South First between Motif Lounge and Pho 69? There is some heavy construction going on at that building. Also Josh, I have some ideas for you to write about...what about how International Vietnamese pop superstar Lynda Trang Dai opening the 1st Bay Area location of her Viet sandwich shop in San Jose at the Vietnam Town shopping center? Or what about all the pretty LED lights popping up all over San Jose on Cap Exp, Story Rd, Saratoga Ave, Tully Rd, etc? Finally, the amazing Art Utility box project: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Art-Box-Project-SJ/138751916190793
    AMAZING!

    1. Here's what I found on the city's permits site:

      "387 S 1ST ST SAN JOSE:

PREVIOUS 2-STORY (WITH MEZZANINE) RESIDENTIAL/COMMERCIAL CONVERTED TO 3-STORY COMMERCIAL BUILDING WITH RETAIL ON GROUND FLOOR AND OFFICES ON 2ND AND 3RD FLOORS (NEW PARTIAL 2ND FLOOR).

Current building consists of 3 spec commercial spaces on the first floor (371, 377 and 383) and 18 studio apartment units on the second floor (387). There is a partial mezzanine of 3,506 sf that spans the three commercial spaces, which will be demolished and replaced with a partial second floor with a floor area of 5,498 sf. Total building floor area is thus expanded from 20,542 sf to 22,436 sf."

    1. I'm going to break this off into a blog post but I'm happy to say that these places are indeed all coming to the Market.

Someone posted a while back that they drove by and it looked empty. Not sure what they were talking about, I was there 2 weeks ago when it was freezing outside and the El Dorado building was completely packed. They almost ran out of seating in Perazzo (B2 coffee place). With even more eateries, the market will continue to explode and be an anchor to bring guests Downtown.

By the way there is a craft beer place opening inside of the Lusardi building as well. The one in Perazzo will mostly be an extension of the San Pedro Square Market Bar with different options.
