Original Gravity Public House Celebrates One Year Anniversary

Original Gravity Public House opened a year ago and has certainly helped to add further legitimacy to the burgeoning San Jose craft beer scene. Tomorrow starting at 12:30 p.m., they're throwing a party in honor of their one-year anniversary. Among the festivities is an impressive tap lineup. Co-owner Dan Phan recently told me that he is particularly excited about the very limited West Ashley ale from Capitola's Sainte Adairius Rustic Ales, which is scheduled to be tapped at 2 p.m.

And for those that sometimes wished that Original Gravity had more space, your wish will come true as the owners have told me that they are working on expanding by a thousand square feet. Very cool news!

You can check out the details of the one-year celebration event on their website or their Facebook event page.

  1. Still the best craft beer joint in downtown SJ right now. Though they have only a few taps, they do rotate the taps and that's pretty awesome! Farmers' Union and Blackbird are pretty good joints but they are still not as beer-nutty as OG. Time will tell, and I hope Farmers Union and Blackbird step up with better/rarer beer as well.

On another note, OSI: Beers has put up papers to cover the windows of their space. Looks like construction is about to start inside :) Whoot!

  2. This is actually the first I have heard about the 1,000 SQFT expansion, that is really good news! I love OG, have never had a bad beer there.

Bob, don't forget about Good Karma, O'Flaherty's, and Market Beer Co., all have really impressive selections. ISO:Beers is also coming soon!

  3. Already a year?! Wonderful to see (and have others take note) that QUALITY businesses can have staying power downtown. SD

  4. I agree. OG still seemes to be the best, down-to-fundamentals, craft beer business in DTSJ.

  5. Next week's Metro is the annual beer issue, and I have an article about the downtown San Jose beer scene - a roundup of the beer spots. And there's an update in the article on ISO: Beers as well - they're certainly getting closer to opening.

    Cheers!
