Another Apartment Project Proposed for Midtown

Fairfield Residential is proposing yet another dense project for midtown over at 800 W. San Carlos where the Cheim Lumber Yard used to be. Unfortunately there has not been much movement on previous projects such as the Ohlone (with 800 units). This new proposal is still in the very early stages, but they are shooting for 315 apartment units. You can't make out too much from black and white drawing below, but it does look like the design will be more eye catching than many of the apartment projects that have been recently built. It kind of reminds me of The Pierce which will go up in Downtown's SoFA District.

The plans also include a respectable and appreciated 23,500 SQFT of retail/restaurant/office space on the ground floors oriented along West San Carlos. Lightrail will also be nearby, providing plenty of transit options thanks to a quick connection to Diridon. I really hope to see this come to fruition soon instead of linger like some of the other midtown projects.

  1. GET YOUR HARD HATS OUT! Man...the amount of construction around town is just ENORMOUS and I LOVE IT! From the new San Jose Earthquakes stadium, Google's new terminal at SJC, new BART line to San Jose, new highrises such as 1 South Market, The Carlyle, new highrise courthouse & more, new massive tech headquarters, tons of new hotels, the new River Oaks shopping center, SOFA Market, new neighborhoods being built, new freeway interchanges, renovations and expansions to San Jose malls, new mom & pop/high-end stores, tons of new restaurants, new apartment buildings, new modern bike lanes, new modern transit stations, new buildings at SJSU including Student Union, eateries & more, new parks, new offices and trust me.........this is only the BEGINNING! More new highrises will break ground soon along with. Bay 101's new casino, Vietnam Town phase 2, Valley Fair expansion, Santana Row expansion, the new Saigon mall, new office buildings and many more that I don't know about yet!

  2. This is stupid. None of this is going to happen, and if it does, it will be 10+ years from now for completion.

    1. None of the items mentioned in the previous post or the midtown building? Many of the projects are underway.

    2. A lot of the stuff mentioned here has already broken ground. Bart is a year ahead of schedule. I can see cranes for the new downtown high rises out my window as I type. And I'm not sure how any of this is "stupid."

  3. The Midtown project probably won't happen. The one across the street was met with so much protest that no builder would want to endure. The folks in this neighborhood don't wan't change. They prefer empty abandoned property with weeds and litter (blight).
