Silicon Valley Sign Art Contest

Silicon Valley needs more landmarks. We live in the most innovative place on earth, yet there is a severe lack of branding for the region. A while back, Hafid Alfonso proposed a dynamic sign on the hillside that would serve as a beacon for the Valley. Now to keep the conversation going, he has partnered with the SJSU Engineering Honors Society to discover who has the best idea for a Silicon Valley sign.

The Silicon Valley Sign Art Contest runs until October 25th and the winner will be published on local media (including this site) and presented to a local Chamber of Commerce.

  1. I really think this is a horrible idea that smacks of desperation - and is already done in the Bay Area in South San Francisco.

  3. This is such a stupid idea. Do you really think the best way to show off technological innovation is to build a ripoff of the Hollywood sign and destroy the natural landscape in the process?

  5. Wholeheartedly agree with others, this is a waste of time. Just what we need more encroachment on open spaces, light pollution, trails to the sign littered with trash, etc. Move to South City if you want a sign on the hill.

  8. Two thumbs up! I think it's a good idea. If we keep hating everything that's proposed, we're never gonna have landmarks for the world to see

    1. On the one hand, we need a highly visible landmark that people easily identify with our region. But this particular idea is dumb and derivative. We can do better.

  9. This is the dumbest idea. No one needs a Silicon Valley landmark. No one.
