Silicon Valley Pride Parade & Festival this weekend

One of the best parts of living in such a diverse community are the cultural activities we can experience. San Jose has an epic Pride Festival this weekend, but the events actually start today and continue throughout the week.

Silicon Valley Pride started in 1975 as a gay rights rally and evolved into the parade and festival it is today in 1977. I actually did not realize it started that long ago. Today it's the largest Pride celebration in the South Bay and is family and ally friendly.

The Festival featuring live music and entertainment takes place on Saturday, August 26th from 6pm to 11pm and Sunday, August 27th from 12pm to 6pm. The Parade will be on Sunday from 10:30am to 12:00pm. Tickets are only $5 per day at the door. For more info and the full event schedule, head over here.

Then on Sunday, the parade starts at 10am on Market Street and is followed by a huge festival from 11am to 6pm. There will be food, drinks, cosplay, a family garden, games, and live performances. They are even advertising 7 hours of Pokemon Go lures (why not). For more information and for tickets, head over to svpride.com.

For those of you who have not attended this event before, it is considered one of the best parades in the United States! Those who have already know what a treasure this parade is for San Jose. This year's Rose, White & Blue Parade begins at 10am at the corner of Shasta Avenue and Martin Avenue (near West San Carlos St.). The parade follows Shasta/Hanchett Park and Rose Gardend neighborhoods and ends on the Alameda near Pershing with a massive picnic!
