Spark Social Opens Outdoor Food Truck Park Near Diridon Station

Residents and visitors seeking a new outdoor gathering spot near the SAP Center now have one that mixes rotating food trucks with games, music, and family areas. Spark Social launched its San Jose location on October 9 at 140 S Montgomery Blvd in the Creekside District, just a short walk from Diridon Station. The project represented a roughly $1 million investment and is expected to support 100 to 150 jobs across vendors, on-site staff, and administrative roles.

The site spans about 75,000 square feet and hosts 15 to 20 food trucks on a typical day, including around 10 permanent vendors, alongside a full bar. An 18-hole putting course, fire pits, live music, and a large LED screen for broadcasting Sharks and 49ers games round out the offerings. Hours run from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and extend until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Entry remains free, with parking available nearby via ParkMobile.

Founder Carlos Muela noted the drawn-out permitting process delayed an earlier spring target and then a potential July opening, yet community interest stayed high. “People are just ecstatic,” he said. “It took a lot longer than we expected. It built that anticipation from San Jose.” Programming includes themed nights such as a Filipino night market, country music events, Dia de los Muertos activities, Halloween programming, and a dog costume contest. Nearly half the space leans toward family use, with a Clubhouse that includes a playground, sensory garden, and play areas.

The venue sits on land tied to Google’s larger Downtown West project, which originally envisioned millions of square feet of office space, thousands of housing units, and extensive public amenities but has not yet begun construction. Jamestown has activated portions of the district with other businesses including Hapa’s Brewing, Local Color, Good Karma, Found SJ, and Bay Padel. Spark Social joins that effort while emphasizing local vendors.

El Mercadito Brings Weekly Night Market Energy Near SAP Center

A free weekly cultural night market now fills Wednesday evenings in Downtown San Jose through early October. El Mercadito runs every Wednesday from 4 to 11 p.m. at 105 South Montgomery Street, a short walk from Diridon Station and right by the SAP Center.

Organized by Creekside Socials, the market offers street food and gourmet bites from local entrepreneurs alongside stalls selling apparel, homewares, and handmade goods from San Jose makers. The Creekside Art Corridor adds visual interest with work by Ricardo Cortez.

Family-friendly and open to leashed dogs, the gathering creates an easy midweek stop for dinner, shopping, or simply spending time outdoors under the lights. The series began in late May and continues each Wednesday until October 7.

Hapa’s Brewing Now Open in San Jose's Downtown West (Creekside) District

San Jose welcomed a new hotspot on Friday with the opening of Hapa’s Brewing Company’s San Jose Beer Garden at 59 Barack Obama Blvd. Part of Google’s ambitious Downtown West project, this 7,000-square-foot space is the brewery’s fourth location in the region and second in San Jose.

The beer garden brings a variety of drinks to the table, from crisp beers to refreshing seltzers and ciders. A Creekside-specific brew is even in development, promising a taste unique to this spot. Hungry visitors can dig into offerings from rotating local food trucks like Mezclá Eats with its Colombian dishes, Brooklyn Pizzeria for a classic slice, or Tacos y Fruta Juquila for a zesty bite. Add in two cornhole courts, and you’ve got a recipe for a laid-back, social hangout.

Google teamed up with real estate developer Jamestown to transform a vacant lot near SAP Center into a lively community hub. With a five-year lease in place, Hapa’s is set to be a fixture for now, though Google might have bigger plans down the road. For the moment, it’s all about creating a welcoming spot for locals and visitors alike, especially those popping over from events at SAP Center.

There’s also warehouse area that could host events, adding another layer to its community appeal. Longtime beer fan Farrell Podgorsek noted how valuable these public spaces are, especially as Downtown San Jose grows. It’s a win for anyone who loves seeing the city come alive with fresh ideas and gathering places.

Ready to check it out? Hapa’s San Jose Beer Garden is open Tuesday through Sunday. Hours are 4pm-9pm Tuesday through Thursday, 3pm-9pm on Friday, and 11am-9pm on Saturday and Sunday. More details are available on Hapa’s website.
