Downtown San Jose "Beautification"

I think we're coming a long way in Downtown San Jose in terms of sprucing the place up. Over the last several weeks I have been noticing flowerpots all over 1st St., 2nd St., and the SoFA district. It's a nice Santana Row-ish element that makes the streets more walkable and aesthetically pleasing. On 1st there are also quite a few flowers handing from streetlights as well as some slick lighting. This is just one of many examples of low cost improvements that can have a high impact on the neighborhood. Well done!

While we're talking about aesthetic improvements... my wife and I walked by the Civic Center today and new lighting system looks incredible. We took some photos, so hopefully I'll get them up tomorrow. This is a good direction for downtown.

Downtown San Jose Photo Walk!

This past weekend was the second annual worldwide photo walk, a great opportunity for photographers to get together and walk around a city snapping photos and sharing techniques. I had the opportunity to attend the downtown San Jose photo walk hosted by Adobe and had an amazing time! I'll be posting photos over the next couple of weeks, but wanted to give you a preview of what's to come.  Here are a handful of photos I took at the River Park Towers (remember you can enlarge any photo by clicking on them):

Downtown San Jose - SoFA District at Night

Here are a few casual shots I took last Friday just walking around. Lots of people out having a great time, the way it should be. Click on the photos to enlarge!

SubZERO 2009 Photos!

Rambis has taken some fantastic photos of SubZERO 2009! I wish I could have been there, but will definitely put it on my calendar for next year. Below are some of my favorite SubZERO photos from his album:

The 88 - Observation Terrace (Open to all 88 Residents)

Okay, so maybe you can't afford the $2.75 million penthouse that I posted photos of yesterday. If you want to sit outside and bask in the Silicon Valley skyline while sipping on a glass of wine, you still have a couple of options. Option #1 is above. The 88 is the only residential high-rise to offer ALL residents a shared penthouse-level terrace. Condo owners can go up to the 21st floor and enjoy the view (and possibly that bar in the 3rd photo). Right now they have a bench, but I'm sure they'll be adding some patio furniture as more residents move in.

Oh, I mentioned a couple of options. Option #2 is to join or become friends with a member of the Capital Club (top floor of the Knight Ridder Builder next to the Fairmont). There are 2 massive balconies, a private restaurant, and a bar up there. As far as I know, these are the only two places in downtown San Jose where you can enjoy the view outdoors without purchasing a penthouse.

The 88 - Flagship Penthouse (Oh Baby)

The photos don't do this one justice. This is the largest penthouse unit on the 21st floor and has not one but two balconies, one of which is at least 700sqft.  Inside, you're looking at 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bath, around 2400sqft, and spectacular views from every window.
