Content 16.2

The latest issue of Content Magazine is about to drop (Silicon Valley's top publication on local arts and culture). This issue will come with a limited edition flexi disc vinyl record from Needle to the Groove, as long as you preorder or subscribe by January 31st.

To top it off, they will do a Pick-Up Party in partnership with Creekside Social on February 22nd at 20 Barack Obama Boulevard in Downtown San Jose. Subscribers always get some sort of perk at these parties--often a free cocktail, apps, or other goodies.

Content 15.4 "Profiles" pick-up party

Content Magazine is releasing their newest issue on Thursday, August 17th. As is tradition they are hosting a party to celebrate the release, which is taking place at the San Jose Museum of Art (SJMA). Music and entertainment will be provided by DJ Weezmatic, Yosimar Reyes, Ervin Wilson, James Mertke, Paul J. Gonzalez, Together We Create, and more.

The event takes place from 6-9pm and is free to the public. Content Subscribers also get a complimentary beverage and hors d'oeuvres courtesy of El Cafecito by Mezcal Restaurant.

Content Pick-Up Party 15.2 "Sight & Sound"

Content Magazine is releasing their next issue on Friday, March 3rd. As is tradition they are hosting a party to celebrate the release, which is taking place at Open San Jose (38 South Second Street, next to the Improv). Music will be provided by Needle to the Groove and visual art will come courtesy of artists featured in issue 15.2. This also coincides with South First Fridays, so you can enjoy one of the newer art exhibitions at the same time.

The event takes place from 6:30-9:30pm and is free to the public. Content Subscribers also get a complimentary beverage and hors d'oeuvres.

Content Pick-Up Party 15.1 "Discover"

Content Magazine is releasing their last issue of the year on December 7th. As is tradition they are hosting a party to celebrate the release, which caps 10 years in print featuring over 1,500 local creatives. The party will be at the new San Pedro Social on Santa Clara Street. Music will be provided by Needle to the Groove and visual art will come courtesy of Syrarium Studios, Wisper, and others artists in issue 15.1.

The event takes place from 5-9pm on December 7th and is free to the public. Content Subscribers also get a complimentary beverage.

Content Pick-Up Party 12.4 "Profiles"

San Jose's premier art & culture magazine is resuming their "pick-up parties" with issue 13.4 on September 3rd--conveniently coinciding with the First Friday Art Walk. You can pick up your latest issue at Parque de Los Pobladores between 6pm-8pm and then check out the galleries and restaurants of SoFA. They'll even have live music, visual art, and mini auto show. What sort of magazine does that for their subscribers?

Content Magazine 7th Anniversary Pick-Up Party - 11.0 "Discover"

Content Magazine is launching their anniversary issue on December 12th at the City Hall Rotunda from 7:30pm to 10pm. Subscribers get free admission, a free drink, and a gift bag. For more info, read the event description below or head over here to RSVP.

This December 12th Content Magazine celebrates seven years in print, and we would love to celebrate with you.

Content 10.3 (Perform) Pick-up Party

San Jose's top cultural publication is hosting a release party on June 21st to celebrate issue 10.3 (Perform). As usual, subscribers get a free drink ticket if they pick up their issue at the party. We are excited for this issue's Pick-Up Party to be part of SVCreates' SVArts event held annually to present the SVLaureate awards that honor exceptional achievements in the arts and contributions to the cultural life of Silicon Valley.

A formal SVLaureate awards program, emceed by KQED's Michael Isip, will be followed by the Content Magazine Pick-Up Party, which celebrates the release of Issue 10.3 "Perform" and honors the SVLaureate recipients along with other featured creatives.

Issue 10.3 featured artists displaying their work at this event will include Pancho Jimenez, Joel Slayton, and Jeremiah Kille, and there will be musical performances by Ziggy, San Jose Jazz High School All Stars, and Ashlee Vivo. Content Magazine is hosting a party to celebrate their latest issues on February 20th (entitled "Tech") at Enoteca La Storia (320 West St. John St.), a hot new restaurant in Little Italy featuring traditional cuisine and an Italian wine shop.

The event goes from 7pm-9:30pm and includes live music from featured artists such as Casey Wickstron and Artificial Lavender. Art by John Edmark Kelly Detweiler, Mr. Chen Lieuh Huang, and Laura Johnston will be on display. Content 9.4 Pick-up Party tonight at the Hammer Theatre

Content Magazine is turning things up a notch for their latest release party. Tonight, they are hosting the festivities on the roof of the Hammer Theatre in Downtown San Jose (101 Paseo de San Antonio).

Content Magazine 9.2 "Sight & Sound" Pick-Up Party

The latest edition of Content is available today. The focus of this issue is on creative people who make the images and sounds of our region.

In typical fashion, they are celebrating the new issue with a party. Enjoy live music by Mitch Lujan, Cola, and Mark Arroyo Trio. If you are a subscriber, you even get a free drink. Content Pick-Up Party tomorrow (Issue 9.1 - Find)

Content subscribers can enjoy a memorable night of food, drinks, music, and art at the AFKgg Gamer Lounge tomorrow to celebrate the release of Issue 9.1. Content Magazine 9.0 Pick-up Party and 5th Anniversary next week

My favorite San Jose magazine is celebrating its fifth year with a free event next Tuesday, December 13th at Art Object Gallery (592 N. 5th St., San Jose).

Music will be provided by Wax Moon, Cado Dos Santos, Mardi Morillo, April Gee, and Steely Nash. Snacks and light bites will be provided by Michi Sushi, The Cookie Boys, Manresa Bread, and the Mount Hamilton GrandView Restaurant.

Content Magazine subscribers will get a complimentary beverage and holiday gift bag along with their issue. If you are still not a subscriber, head over here.

They are also partnering with Toys for Tots on this event. It is encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy for a child in need (age range is 0-16).

Content Pick-Up Party tomorrow (Issue 8.4 - Profiles)

Content subscribers can enjoy an evening of art, music, food and drinks in the Citadel Art Studios Gallery to celebrate the release of Issue 8.4. This issue highlights 45 leaders in art, fashion, design, and music who are key to changing and growing the culture of the South Bay.

Snack on appetizers, sip refreshing beverages, and experience creations by some of the artists featured in 8.4 including Max DeHart, Tyson Johnston, Agency Furniture, David James Keaton, and more. There will also be a musical performance by the sibling duo Bird and Willow. Subscribers to Content Magazine will receive a complimentary beverage when picking up their issue.

The Citadel is the largest artist community in the South Bay with over 70 studios, fostering both established and emerging artists. Originally a cannery, the industrial feel of the building gives artists the freedom to express their creative side.

San Jose photo contest

History San Jose and Content Magazine are teaming up for the "This IS San Jose 2016" photo contest. The goal is to promote our uniqueness, diversity, and support our art community. Winners will have their photos displayed in the City Hall Routunda, win prizes, and will be featured in a future issues of Content Magazine.

Help Capture the Uniqueness and Diversity that IS San Jose!

Continuing the annual tradition, History San José will be accepting submissions for the 2016 Photo Competition, This IS San Jose.  There are several benefits to this contest including:

  • Promotes the uniqueness and diversity that is San Jose 
  • Supports the photographic arts and artists 
  • Helps contest winners build their photographic portfolio and resume
  • Documents each of the ten (10) districts with recent photographs for preservation for future generations

There are many ways for artists to participate - through our Kick-off Instagram Contest and then using any camera format the General Photo Contest.

Instagram Kick-Off Contest - Starts May 20 Thru July 1, 2016
Instagram contest begins May 20, 2016. Use @thisissanjose and the district number where the photo was taken (e.g., for District 1, use #district1; for District 10, use #district10, etc.) with your mobile device. District map can be found at San Jose Council Districts. 1, 2, 3. Honorable Mention winners will be automatically entered in the General Photo Contest.

General Photo Contest - Starts July 1 thru September 23, 2016
Primary photo contest begins June 20th and is open to all types of cameras and levels of ability (professional, non-professional or student under 18). Submissions for the primary contest need to be made before September 9th at contest@thisissanjose.com. Include your name, category (professional [earn over 50% from photography], non-professional or student under age 18), district taken, and your photograph in jpg document format.

All winning entries form all districts will be displayed in the San Jose City Hall Rotunda from October through December 2016. We are planning an awards reception in October with prizes. Winners will also be included in an upcoming issue of Content Magazine.
