Santa Clara University Charts a Bold Course for the Region's Healthcare Future with New Medical School

Santa Clara University will soon add a transformative medical school to its distinguished lineup thanks to a record $175 million gift from alumna Mary Stevens and her husband Mark Stevens.

The Mary & Mark Stevens School of Medicine will partner closely with Sutter Health to train the next generation of physicians and tackle California's looming shortage of more than 4,000 primary care doctors by 2030.

Students will benefit from an integrated training model that keeps them within Sutter's extensive clinical network while gaining hands-on experience in an 82,000 square foot facility located near the health system's upcoming 272 bed hospital.

The curriculum will blend traditional medical education with cutting edge applications of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies to prepare graduates for a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.

This development not only addresses critical workforce needs across the Bay Area but also reinforces the region's leadership in combining education, technology, and compassionate care for generations to come.

San Jose Lands the WeAreDevelopers World Congress North America

Thousands of developers from across the globe will converge on the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in late September 2026 for the inaugural WeAreDevelopers World Congress North America. The three-day gathering from September 23 to 25 will draw approximately 10,000 attendees and launch this major technology event on American soil while establishing San Jose as the permanent North American home for the annual congress.

The new partnership with WeAreDevelopers selected San Jose after reviewing several major U.S. cities. The choice rested on the city’s foundational role in the technology revolution, its concentrated engineering talent, and its established cluster of companies, startups, and universities. Organizers intend the event to bridge European developer communities with Silicon Valley’s innovation ecosystem through sustained collaboration rather than a one-off appearance.

Future editions of the World Congress will integrate closely with San Jose’s local tech scene. Attendees will tap directly into the atmosphere where modern computing originated and where bold advancements continue scaling rapidly. The arrangement will elevate the city’s profile as a global crossroads for those who design and deploy tomorrow’s technology.

Professionals eager to exchange ideas with top minds from both sides of the Atlantic will discover exceptional opportunities right here. San Jose will keep advancing as the destination where the world’s most ambitious developers gather to shape what comes next.

Cadence Boosts San Jose State University's AI Innovation Hub with Key Partnership

San Jose State University has secured a multiyear collaboration with Cadence Design Systems to enhance its upcoming artificial intelligence innovation hub, set to open by summer 2026. This alliance joins efforts from companies like Nvidia and Adobe, positioning the University as a central player in Silicon Valley's tech landscape. Cadence, already present on campus through its IC Design Laboratory, will provide AI design software and digital twin technology, described as virtual replicas that help identify inefficiencies in real-world systems.

The hub aims to serve students across various fields, from engineering and computer science to healthcare and social sciences, allowing them to explore AI applications for practical challenges. For instance, the university's work with the city of San Jose and Nvidia on a digital twin of the city models infrastructure layers, including underground utilities, streets, and buildings, to simulate scenarios like wildfires for better emergency planning. This partnership expands those capabilities, leveraging Cadence's expertise in digital twins to foster innovative problem-solving.

San Jose's broader push to lead in AI includes initiatives like the Plug & Play business incubator, where entrepreneurs develop startups with venture support. As the region's largest public university, SJSU takes on the role of equipping graduates with skills for human-centered AI use, aligning with the city's tech-driven growth. This development not only prepares the workforce but also draws talent to San Jose, strengthening its reputation as an innovation epicenter.

With investments like this, San Jose continues to build an ecosystem where education and industry intersect seamlessly. Students gain hands-on access to cutting-edge tools, while companies like Cadence contribute to community impact while training potential future employees.
