Where Locals Head for Brunch in Willow Glen

Saturday mornings in Willow Glen often begin with a choice along the tree-lined stretch of Lincoln Avenue. The neighborhood’s compact downtown offers several reliable spots for brunch, each with its own pace and outdoor seating, and all within a short walk of one another.

The Table, at the corner of Willow and Lincoln, continues to draw the longest lines for its seasonal American plates. Chilaquiles, fresh juices, and rotating egg dishes fill the menu, and the back patio becomes especially inviting once the morning fog lifts. Weekend service starts at 9 a.m., with walk-ins only on Saturday and Sunday. Arriving right at opening or after 12:30 usually shortens the wait.

Just down the street, Bill’s Cafe has served stuffed omelets and oversized pancakes since 1977. The heated patio stays dog-friendly, making it a practical stop for families who prefer to skip reservations altogether. STACKS, also on Lincoln Avenue, opens earlier and typically moves faster for those who want stacked pancakes without the crowd.

Copita adds another option later in the morning. Its weekend brunch runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. across the dining room, patio, and rooftop, and reservations are accepted. The setting works well for groups that prefer to plan ahead rather than wait.

After brunch on Saturdays, the farmers market at Willow Glen Elementary sits only a few blocks away, Free two-hour street parking lines Lincoln Avenue, with a larger lot behind the Bank of America at 1245 Lincoln for those who need a little more time.

Mad Yolks Brings Fresh Breakfast to Willow Glen

San Jose welcomed a new spot for morning meals with the opening of Mad Yolks at 1087 Meridian Ave, Suite 40. The city joined in the celebration on November 3 with a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring Councilmember Mulcahy and owners Peter and Henry Wong shared remarks to mark the occasion. This addition strengthens the local food scene by offering a community-focused place for residents to start their day.

Brothers Henry and Peter Wong built Mad Yolks from a small pop-up into a full restaurant concept rooted in Santa Cruz. Their passion for quality ingredients and comfort food drives the menu, which features fresh, made-from-scratch items. As their third location and first in San Jose, the eatery emphasizes sandwiches, bowls and specialty drinks prepared with care. Local and organic sourcing plays a key role in their approach to elevated breakfast options.

Signature offerings include the BAE and Mad Chicks sandwiches alongside creative dishes like Curry Moco and Dirty Tots. Brioche buns baked in-house pair with homemade sauces for a distinctive taste. Beverages range from matcha drinks and cold brew to fruit teas, all crafted to order. This focus on fresh elements makes Mad Yolks a standout choice for brunch enthusiasts in the area.

Willow Glen drew the brothers because of its welcoming vibe filled with families and small businesses. In their own words:

"We chose Willow Glen because it’s a neighborhood with heart. Full of families, small businesses, and a real sense of community. It reminded us of why we started Mad Yolks in the first place: to bring people together over good food made with care. The walkable streets and local charm felt like the perfect fit for our brand and our mission to serve fresh, made-from-scratch breakfast in a warm and welcoming space."

The new location has already become a hit on Yelp. Mad Yolks is open from 8am-3pm, 7 days a week.

Brunch Blooms in Downtown San Jose

Reza Manion, the mastermind behind the beloved Bloom Eatery brunch spot in Santa Clara, is bringing his vision to 225 W. Santa Clara St., with an anticipated opening later this year. This expansion marks a new chapter for Bloom, a restaurant that’s been winning hearts since its debut in 2020, and it’s a sign of exciting things brewing in the city’s core.

Manion’s journey into the restaurant world started early, shaped by his upbringing in his family’s café, Sara’s Kitchen, a Santa Clara staple for over three decades. That experience fueled his dream of creating his own space, and Bloom Eatery was born. The Santa Clara location quickly gained a following for its standout dishes like croissant French toast and chicken and waffles. Now, Downtown San Jose gets to experience that same magic, with a 4,000-square-foot space that Manion describes as perfect thanks to its natural light and lack of brunch competition nearby.

The move to Downtown wasn’t Manion’s first instinct—he initially leaned toward smaller towns like Campbell or Los Gatos. But when a real estate opportunity arose, he saw the potential for Bloom to shine in an area he believes is on the upswing. Challenges like parking and Downtown’s reputation don’t faze him; instead, he’s eager to contribute to the area’s growth. With the interior build-out underway and permits in progress, he’s aiming to open by late summer or early fall, setting the stage for a cozy brunch haven just before the holiday rush.

What makes Bloom special is its commitment to keeping things simple yet exceptional. The menu stays focused, letting the quality of the food and the care in its presentation take center stage. Whether it’s the flaky layers of croissant French toast or the crispy perfection of chicken and waffles, freshness is key. Manion wants Bloom to feel like a neighborhood gem—approachable, elegant, and rooted in community.
