This Friday, at the South FIRST FRIDAY event, Instagrammers Silicon Valley is holding a meet-up and night walk.

Just make sure your cell phone is charged and ready to snap photos. The group meets at 6pm at McCormick & Schmick's for Happy Hour and then will start the walk at 7pm.

SubZero is THIS Friday!

The mother of all South First Fridays is coming this week. Prepare yourself for tons of art, live music, vendors and even a flock of food trucks. If you only go to a single South First Friday this year, this is the one. If you feel like showing off how awesome Downtown San Jose is to disbelievers, this is the event to bring them to. More specifics below from the SubZERO Facebook page:

Last year- SubZERO Festival was the single most exciting South Bay event I participated in all year. The 4th Annual SubZERO Festival returns on June 3rd.

This year, KSCU 103.3 FM and Grand Fanali Presents have put together a stage of entertainment for you. It's a FREE event downtown and our stage is just one piece of a larger collaboration with many artists, vendors, musicians filling the South First Street area that night. Check the SubZERO website for more info.http://www.subzerofestival.com/

MORE ABOUT THE PERFORMERS ON KSCU / GFP STAGE:
The Glowing Stars:
http://theglowingstarsband.wordpress.com/
There are many chiptune artists, but not a lot of chiptune bands. The Glowing Stars — guitarist/vocalist Lizzie Cuevas and drummer/Game Boy synth programmer Matt Payne — combines the clicky waveforms and perfect arpeggios of 8-bit processors with the fury of live drums and distorted guitars. Influenced as much by Frank Zappa and Freddie Mercury as Mega Man and Metroid, the band’s wistfully emotional lyrics are more boy-meets-girl than Game-Boy-meets-end-boss. With customized game hardware sharing the stage with 100-watt half-stacks, The Glowing Stars are half Weezer, half Wario – in other words, utterly unique.

The vapors flash her pots with color - all surprising, unique, and a tangible record of what pieces endured in the kiln.

Opening Reception- Better Luck Next Time
Have you ever heard these words? It is defined as “an expression that comforts someone for a minor disappointment.” Whether it’s a matter of the heart, life experiences, work or leisure, there is almost always a time when this applies. It might be that piece of art that is loved but just didn’t fit the bill. Engaging in a conversation, examining social or political issues, creating humor, capturing history or chronicling a new work—this exhibition will reveal the artistic expression for the meaning behind the phrase. These artists are making the choice to be lucky this year, presenting some great art that will empower time and again discovering hilarity in Better Luck Next time. Presented by Works in collaboration with South Bay Area Women’s Caucus for Art.

First Friday Art Walk Today!

It's that time again. Rain or shine, the show will go on tomorrow in the SoFA district. I say it ever month... there is no better way to experience the San Jose art scene than to participate in these art walks. The galleries are open from 8pm to late (sometimes all night) and you have literally a hundred restaurants in walking distance... not to mention bars, night clubs, comedy clubs, movie theaters, the highest concentration of yogurt shops in the world, and guaranteed good times. Okay, I may be exaggerating on the yogurt shops but not the good times, so check it out!

Below is a map of all the places participating in the art walk. If you want the details on what each venue has to offer, you can always click this link. But do you really want to ruin the surprise?
