Instagrammers Silicon Valley Meet-up & Night Walk: Friday May 3rd

Are you on Instagram? Do the words amaro, valencia, earlybird, or hefe mean anything to you? Do you find yourself stopping every few feet while walking around Downtown (or another part of the city) snapping photos and telling people to "Hold on, I gotta share this!"

Well good news, you're among friends!

This Friday, at the South FIRST FRIDAY event, Instagrammers Silicon Valley is holding a meet-up and night walk.

Just make sure your cell phone is charged and ready to snap photos. The group meets at 6pm at McCormick & Schmick's for Happy Hour and then will start the walk at 7pm.

Meet up with fellow Instagram enthusiasts and photographers while enjoying the evening's FIRST FRIDAY event.

SubZero is THIS Friday!

The mother of all South First Fridays is coming this week. Prepare yourself for tons of art, live music, vendors and even a flock of food trucks. If you only go to a single South First Friday this year, this is the one. If you feel like showing off how awesome Downtown San Jose is to disbelievers, this is the event to bring them to. More specifics below from the SubZERO Facebook page:

Last year- SubZERO Festival was the single most exciting South Bay event I participated in all year. The 4th Annual SubZERO Festival returns on June 3rd.

This year, KSCU 103.3 FM and Grand Fanali Presents have put together a stage of entertainment for you. It's a FREE event downtown and our stage is just one piece of a larger collaboration with many artists, vendors, musicians filling the South First Street area that night. Check the SubZERO website for more info.http://www.subzerofestival.com/

MORE ABOUT THE PERFORMERS ON KSCU / GFP STAGE:
The Glowing Stars:
http://theglowingstarsband.wordpress.com/
There are many chiptune artists, but not a lot of chiptune bands. The Glowing Stars — guitarist/vocalist Lizzie Cuevas and drummer/Game Boy synth programmer Matt Payne — combines the clicky waveforms and perfect arpeggios of 8-bit processors with the fury of live drums and distorted guitars. Influenced as much by Frank Zappa and Freddie Mercury as Mega Man and Metroid, the band’s wistfully emotional lyrics are more boy-meets-girl than Game-Boy-meets-end-boss. With customized game hardware sharing the stage with 100-watt half-stacks, The Glowing Stars are half Weezer, half Wario – in other words, utterly unique.

UBER First Friday Tomorrow ! ! !

What happens when South First Fridays meets the 3rd annual SubZERO? A true San Jose enthusiast's playground! I liken it to walking into the flagship Chuck E. Cheese off Tully when you're 8 years old. If you have never been to a SubZERO-supercharged First Friday, tomorrow is your lucky day. From 6pm to midnight+ you'll have the everything that makes First Fridays awesome PLUS live performances by 6 artists, a SJ Bike Party, Dr. Sketchy Anti-Art School, Museum Proper (a 12-foot-tall monster puppet), SJ FAM, SJ Yarn Bombers, The Summer Film Initiative, The Usuals, Veggielution, Barefoot Coffee, Treatbot, etc., etc., etc. There are literally a hundred reasons to swing by SoFA tomorrow. A shocking majority of the uniquely-San Jose cultural events, artists, and vendors we've been promoting for the past year will all culminate on South First Street... Tomorrow... 6pm! First Friday (anti)Valentine Exhibition & Auction @ Works

The same gallery that brought you a crazy 24-hour ART-A-THON last First Friday (in December) is now brining you a "my Bloody Valentine" dance and (anti)Valentine auction for February's First Friday coming up... this week.

Here's a link if you're interested in either of these events or would like to donate your art: http://www.workssanjose.org/wordpress/.

If you haven't attended a First Friday yet, it's definitely a worthwhile experience. Great way to see the San Jose art scene. If you have attended a First Friday, have you walked all the way down to Market St.? There are 3-4 galleries and exhibits that people tend to miss, including friends of mine that have been to several of these. Make sure you go all the way down for the full experience ;)
