Omi Ninja - New San Jose Food Truck

There is a new food truck in town called Omi Ninja! They specialize in Vietnamese street food (sandwiches, rice plates, etc.) and have several tasty items to try. I highly recommend the "ninja sauce" and trying the "ninja style" option. Another solid addition to the San Jose food truck batallion (FYI, list below).

SJ Eats 2.0 - May 7th

Downtown San Jose's 2nd mass-food truck experience is coming on May 7th! Ryan describes some of the improvements below, but basically there are going to be even more food trucks to help keep the lines short, the lines will be managed much better, the area will be 3 times larger than before, and there is even going to be some music this time around. Every day they are announcing more trucks at their facebook page right over here. My recommendation would be to come early so you can sample as many trucks as possible! The lineup already looks pretty amazing.

A Note from SJ Eats
Monday, April 4, 2011: Thank you for making SJ Eats the largest grassroots event ever held in Downtown SJ. Almost 10K people attempted to attend on Sat, April 2nd. We were set up to handle maybe half that. Many passed by only to leave in frustration due to extremely long wait times & chaotic lines. I want to sincerely apologize for the substandard experiences many of you endured. We have learned from Saturday and plan to implement several changes.
Long Wait Times — The massive attendance at SJ Eats is proof that San Jose has an incredible pent up demand for quality street food. The only way to meet this demand is to increase supply. For this reason, SJ Eats is immediately entering talks with City staff to start a weekly street food meet up in Downtown.
Line Management — We are investing in line management hardware to bring order to the chaotic system displayed at the lunch session.
These changes along with the addition of live music will help push SJ Eats to meet its true potential as a social connector for San Jose. If you have any suggestions, please comment HERE. We hope to see you in May at the next SJ Eats!

New San Jose Froyo Truck - Twisted Chill

Well... it's about time. Finally someone in Norcal figured out a way to package self serve Frozen Yogurt into a food truck, and they just happen to be based out of San Jose.

The truck is called Twisted Chill and below are some mock ups, including one rough one of what the self serve section will look like. They are already planning to participate in SJ EATS!

San Jose Metblogs: A Moveable Feast

Well, I was going to post about this awesome event coming up in April featuring 20 food trucks (including San Jose favorites such as Treatbot, Mogo, and Wow)... but Jennifer from San Jose Metblogs beat me to it:

from San Jose Metblogs

Get your appetites ready because it’s time to FEAST.
The people that put together San Jose Made (SJMADE) Vendor Fair and The Usuals have helped launch a food truck extravaganza for San Jose: SJ Eats!

What: SJ Eats: A Moveable Feast
When: Saturday, April 2nd
Where: Fallon House, W. St. John St. and Terraine St.
When: 11am-9pm; lunch & dinner service (there may be a break between these hours)
Free admission

Follow SJ Eats on Facebook and Twitter for up-to-date information. (They just announced this today, so give ‘em a bit before that Twitter account kicks in.)

Here are two tips from someone who has gone to a few Off the Grids and Edgewood Eats; bring plenty of cash and hungry friends. When you get to the location, scope out the eats and have your friends stand in different lines. Buy something you’ve never had before, gather with your friends and share!
Then go back for seconds.

They’re planning for 20 trucks – here is a list of some of the trucks involved so far:

Treatbot
MoGo BBQ
The WOW
Sam’s ChowderMobile
CurryUpNow

By the way, the second SJ MADE Vendor Fair is happening in conjunction with SJ Eats. Support your local artists and vendors! (SJ MADE is from 12pm to 8pm, San Pedro Square.)

New San Jose Food Truck

As a follow up to the previous post, I am also informed that a new food truck will be launching at The Usuals' Black Friday event tomorrow from 12-3pm. It's called WOW Silog Truck and will serve Filipino-style silog dishes (combination of rice, eggs, and meats). Treatbot set the gold standard for food truck innovation with their Karaoke Ice Cream Truck, so WOW is also upping the ante with a full blown DJ booth inside the truck. For their premier, they're also going to have free beer and wine according to their Facebook page right over here. All the more reason to come to The Usuals for Black Friday!
