Whole Foods Breaks Ground Tomorrow!

This has been a long time coming--Whole Foods is finally starting construction of their store on the Alameda a stones-throw away from Downtown San Jose! Shovels hit the ground tomorrow. The project consists of a 27,291 SQFT grocery store with a separate 5,6000 SQFT two-story brewery (the first in the Whole Foods chain).

A lot of people doubted that this would move forward, so it is nice to see this actually come to fruition. Everyone that lives near The Alameda or Downtown should be thrilled!

  1. This thing has dragged out for so long I no longer care. Somebody is bound to protest something about this project again.

    1. Protest AGAIN? Please educate me as to who has protested at all. This project has received nothing but support from everyone.

    4. There were some design-related protests initially, but they continually improved the plan.

    2. Downtown is definitely getting better, especially in and around the San Pedro Square area.

A new ballpark in downtown would do such great things for the area.

I hope San Jose can when the legal battle against the MLB.

  4. Exciting news and I second the "Finally!". Does anyone know where the final plans for parking fell out? I'm definitely a Whole Foods foodie, but I worry about whether there will be enough parking there.

    1. According to the latest set of plans available (Feb 2013) on the city permit page, it looks like there will be 141 parking spaces.

    2. It's a city. Why are you driving? Worrying, really?

    3. It's a city. People drive in a city. People who drive need parking. Therefore concerns over parking is a valid one. Not too bright are you?

If this location wants to cater to just only pedestrians like yourself, then well good luck to that.

But it looks like the previous poster provided helpful relevant information (that you didn't). Thank you poster above you!
