Skyy Vodka is Bottled in San Jose?

Someone mentioned to me a while back that they thought Skyy was manufactured in San Jose. I finally made it over to their Wiki page, and it looks like this is true! Production and bottling for Skyy Vodka is handled by Frank-Lin Distillers in San Jose. Ethanol is delivered using the railroad system, then the ethanol is mixed with filtered and deionized water and flavoring is added (for certain Vodkas).

Now you know that when you order a martini or mixed drink, if you pick Skyy vodka you are benefiting a San Jose company and the local economy. Speaking of which, I have a whole Google Doc filled with local companies that can help you prioritize your holiday shopping selections. You can access it right over here.

  1. Josh, you are forgetting some major San Jose companies that started here in San Jose and have expanded internationally! Pho Hoa Noodle House (original on Tully Road and is now international), Jazen Tea which is also on Tully Road and is opening new locations in Canada, Bambu Desserts and Drinks on Hostetter, Lee's Sandwiches and TK Noodle House. If you need proof, I can provide links. http://www.leesandwiches.com/main.php?act=introduct&content=intro, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee's_Sandwiches, http://www.drinkbambu.com/locations, http://www.drinkbambu.com/about, http://www.tknoodle.com/share/cgi-bin/site.cgi?site_id=tknoodle&page_id=aboutus&qd.query, http://www.jazentea.com/locations

    1. Good points, but that Google Doc was meant for products that you can buy and take home or give as gifts. What I did was created a tab in the Downtown San Jose Restaurants Google Doc for chains originating in San Jose (but outside Downtown): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AqHhqtbuW-RzdFZjS0UyT1g2dVFhRWRDV3RSU3lpUUE&usp=drive_web#gid=7

Also, I already grabbed TK Noodle. Their first restaurants was actually Downtown.

    2. I should also mention some other chains started Downtown: Togo's, Sonoma Chicken, New Tung Kee Noodle, Iguanas, and La Victoria.

  2. The railroad line near the distillery has been shut down for some time now. I am guessing they probably have the stuff trucked? (though that sounds way more expensive) UP sold the line to VTA for BART and parts of it have already been ripped out, I think recently the area around the Berryessa BART was ripped out, leaving the siding and part of the railroad up to Williams St isolated (the railroad was replaced by a housing development from there up to 280).

Anyway, doesn't seem like the change shut them down (I may be wrong) so I am guessing trucking ethanol would be the likely route. Though this article seems to imply they may have moved operations to Fairfield: http://www.dailyrepublic.com/news/topstories/fairfield-officials-praise-new-frank-lin-distillers-plant/
    So does their website: http://www.frank-lin.com/index.html

  3. Skyy bottles used to say bottled in San Jose. Years ago it stopped appearing on the label. It says San Francisco now. San Jose gets snubbed again by SF.

    1. Updated the Google Doc to reflect these two. Also added Strike to the list, they are building a permanent brewery here on 10th Street!

    2. Don't know if you have Hermitage Brewery on it. They're near Spartan Stadium.

  5. Skyy is terrible... Continue to support the bay area while having some good quality vodka still by purchasing Hanger One.
