Mixed-Use Development to Transform East Santa Clara Street

A proposed mixed-use development at 644 East Santa Clara Street positioned between two future BART stations will blend housing, retail, and office spaces into a dynamic community that could redefine the area. The development will rise six stories, with 50 housing units spanning the second through sixth floors. These homes will offer diverse living options for San Joseans eager to be part of a growing neighborhood. On the ground floor, 7,200 SQFT of retail space will create new options for local shops and businesses, while 7,100 SQFT of office space across the first and second floors will support San Jose's expanding workforce. This combination fosters a place where daily life—living, working, and shopping—can unfold seamlessly within a single block.

Location is a standout feature here. Nestled between the upcoming Downtown San Jose BART station and the 28th Street/Little Portugal station, the site is poised to become a hub of accessibility. The area could soon host community gatherings or events, drawing people together. Replacing a two-story office building from 1946, this project marks a shift toward modernization.

Beyond its functionality, the development prioritizes quality of life. Private and shared outdoor spaces, including decks and rooftop areas, will give residents spots to relax, enjoy the sunshine, and connect with neighbors. These thoughtful touches show a commitment to building not just structures, but a true community. With underground parking for just 60 to 62 cars and 21 motorcycles, the design keeps convenience in mind while encouraging a walkable lifestyle.
