New Event Center Downtown Called "The Glasshouse"

The space formerly housing the Entrepreneur Center on the ground floor of 84 West Santa Clara has been vacant for quite some time. Now, the same owners of the Corinthian Event Center are planning to create a new 17,000 SQFT event space they are calling The Glasshouse where the Entrepreneur Center used to sit (it has since been moved to 100 East Santa Clara).

The plan is for a full-service venue that will cater to corporate events, weddings, conferences and parties. The aesthetic will be very modern and upscale featuring plenty of glass (you would expect this based on the name, right?). As an added bonus, they plan to eventually add a cafe with "substantial" outdoor patio seating on Market Street. Another option is a bar/lounge concept.

This will fill up yet another key corner on Santa Clara Street and bring new life and activity to the block. The Glasshouse is shooting for a December opening.

  1. ok. The city spent millions on San Pedro SQ, and now this.. now if you can build a small homeless shelter for all the people on the streets and the homeless encampments all over the city, that would be nice!

    1. what makes you think there is city funding in the project? looks to be a private investment -- which we should all support and appreciate.

    3. There is no longer a Redevelopment Agency this is not city money, and neither was San Pedro Market.

  2. I used to walk by this building on a daily basis when I worked next door. The plan sounds like a great one and can really turn this corner around with a cafe space. There is a lot of underutilized plaza space surrounding this building.

  3. 1st Anon,

The Market was built out by private folks.

We have a lot of small homeless shelters already in the city. The problem is that a lot of these homeless folks just don't want to stay in them.

If you don't know anything, quit the yapping, and get back to SanJoseInside.com with the rest of your whining buddies.

    1. Bob good comment I agree.....we should support private investment that brings up the downtown experience and property values, which in turn fund police, schools, fire dept etc. Its easy to sit back and poke jabs, especially when you are not educated on the facts. The facts here are private money is taking a big chance on something that will benefit us all and we should be thanking them for that.

  4. The Redevelopment Agency, not the city, funded $5M of the San Pedro project. So you're both wrong, but the homeless problem is no relevant anyway.

  6. We attended the oyster roast at Undercurrent Mar. 3, 2013. The newspaper piece advertising it said that there would be a low country oyster roast outside and, for an additional $27 or both for $40, you go inside and have Frogmore stew, enhanced oyster dishes, and salad. We started outside on the patio and quickly found it overcrowded. There were
